Ronald Strickler, 65, of Centerville passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines surrounded by his family.
Born February 14, 1952 to EJ "Hank" and Florence (Davis) Strickler in Centerville, IA. He went by a few names including Ronnie, Hair, brother, uncle and friend but loved the most to be called Daddy and Papa. Ron graduated from Centerville High School in 1970. He entered the United States Army in 1972 until 1974. Ron worked for 38 years at Bemis. He had a green thumb which he learned from his grandpa. Ron owned and operated Strickler's Greenhouse for almost 30 years. He loved fishing, campfires, and was a wonderful cook and baker. Ron loved hosting holiday family parties. He was the life of the party and loved to dance. His chicken legs moved liked Fred Astaire.
Those left to treasure his memory include two daughters; Jeni Tinlin of Des Moines, Trista Barbaglia of Centerville, three grandchildren: Abigail Tinlin of Des Moines, Jaxson Barbaglia of Centerville, Casen Barbaglia of Centerville, five siblings; Jim Strickler (Teresa) of Centerville, Gary Strickler of Centerville, Pat Alston of Newton, Dennis Strickler (Vicky) of Moravia, Joyce Baker of Centerville and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, William David Barbaglia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Haines Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the family which will be designated at a later date and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
