Tad A. McDowell, 46, of Ames, formerly of Ottumwa, died March 8, 2017 at his home.
He was born August 23, 1970 in Ottumwa to Carroll Edward and Aurelia Bernadine Carder McDowell.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1988, he earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Iowa State University and was pursuing his Doctorate Degree.
He had worked for Advanced Micro Devices in Austin, TX until 1996. He moved back to Ottumwa and worked as an engineer at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 15 years and was promoted to John Deere Des Moines Works where he has been working as a Senior Engineer for the past 5 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. He loved every animal he ever had and family was very important to him. Tad had an unbelievably creative mind and was well respected by his peers for his work.
Surviving is a daughter, Chase McDowell of Pensacola, FL; four sisters, Linda (Dennis) Cottrell, Debbie (Tom) Courtney, both of Ottumwa, Carol (Joe) Paisley of Henderson, NV, Becky (Larry) Barberis of Peculiar, MO; four brothers, Edward (Andrea) McDowell, Robert (Kristi) McDowell, Lonnie (Rebecca) McDowell, all of Ottumwa and Walter (Molly) McDowell of Des Moines along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael McDowell.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. His body will be cremated after the visitation.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jesse Elkins officiating. Inurnment will be in Batavia Cemetery.
