Ottumwa, Iowa - Anna Marie Anderson Scalf was born to Lloyd Lester and Louise Anna (Musil) Anderson in a farmhouse in the Pleasant Hill area southeast of Washington, Iowa on June 25, 1937. She passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025 at Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa with her family at her side after being diagnosed with lymphoma on July 9, 2025.

She attended schools in Washington and graduated second scholastically with the Washington High School class of 1955.

On August 6, 1965 she married George Edward Scalf at the First Baptist Church in Wellman, IA. She had met him while pheasant hunting on her cousin's farm north of Wellman in 1963. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2010.

To this union was born two daughters: Kathleen Marie on August 30, 1970 and Karen Lee on July 15, 1973.

She worked as a secretary at W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, IA; the California Air National Guard in Hayward, CA; Servicised Products Corporation in Clearing, IL; Washington State Theater and Drive in Theater, Seifert's Store for Women, Dr. R.V. Owen and McCleery-Cumming Calendar factory in Washington, IA; John Morrell and Co. and Area XV Community College in Ottumwa, IA. From March 1992 through July 2010, she and her husband owned Lollipop Bait Shop in Ottumwa, IA.

She served as a secretary and president of Agassiz School PTA and several offices in the Ottumwa PTA Councial between 1979 and 1989. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Iowa PTA. She had also volunteered in the Agassiz School library while her daughters attended that school.

She served as treasurer of the Iowa Trappers Association from April 1984 to September 2006. She was an Endowment Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association and an Endowment Lifetime Member of the National Trappers Association. She was a lifetime member of the Arizona Trappers Association, Florida Trappers Association, Iowa Trappers Association, Minnesota Trappers Association, Missouri Trappers Association, the Texas Trappers and Fur Hunter Association, Inc., Wisconsin Trappers Association, and the Chief Wapello Memorial Park Association. She was a member of the Alabama Trappers and Predator Control Association. She was a member of the Ottumwa Civil War Round Table. She had reached the 22 gallon donation plateau at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center.

She was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, reading biographies, walking for exercise, completing crossword puzzles, feeding the birds and squirrels, hunting mushrooms and attending rummage sales with her daughter Kathy. She was a fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the NASCAR circuit. She was a member of Hank Williams Jr Fan Club and attended many of his concerts. She, along with her daughter, Kathy, and granddaughter, Anna Louise, personally met him on July 22, 2000 in Wisdom, Montana. A picture taken that day was featured in his fan club magazine.

She and her husband were inducted as a couple into Iowa Trappers Hall of Fame in 2001 and into the National Trappers Hall of Fame in 2007. She and her husband were named as Trappers of the Year West by National Trappers Association in 1987 and 2001. They were given the Pioneer Award by the National Trapper Association in 2005. They had hosted eight banquets for FurBearers Unlimited at Hotel Ottumwa before George's untimely passing.

She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Marie (Jon) McSparen of Ottumwa and Karen Lee (Eric Penrod) Scalf of rural Bloomfield; one granddaughter Anna Louise McSparen; two great grandsons; and one sister, Patricia McMillin of Liberty, MO.

She was preceded in death by her mother on June 2, 1979, her father on March 7, 1994 and her infant granddaughter, Dakota Marie Scalf Lanphier on August 18, 1992.

Per her wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are planned. Her and her husband's cremains will be interred at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to 119 N. Madison, Ottumwa, IA 52501. They will be divided between the National Trappers Association and the Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mahaska County hospital, and especially the staff of Serenity House, for the excellent and compassionate care shown to Mom and our family. We also thank Dr. Brian Quinn for his care of Mom for many years.
