Barb  Heckart
Barbara K. Heckart, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 1:25 a.m. November 13, 2019 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
Barb was born June 23, 1942 in Ottumwa to Walter and Vera Sasseen Huber. She married Gary C. Heckart on April 1, 1962 at Wesley United Methodist Church.
A 1960 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Barb was the treasurer of Bud Heckart & Sons Inc., retiring in 2004.
She was a member of Grace Church and a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Barb served on the board for Habitat for Humanity and was instrumental in the creation of the annual Festival of Trees event. She served on the Fahrney Education Foundation Scholarships Committee, was a founding member of Main Street Ottumwa, implemented Walk on Art Street and Lunch in the Park, and served on the board of Ottumwa Progress Inc.
Barb is survived by her husband, Gary; 3 sons, Mathew (Samantha) Heckart of Ottumwa, Gregory (Kim) Heckart of Cedar Rapids and Nicholas (Candee) Heckart of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold (Sue) Huber of Miami, FL; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Cameron officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis & Wapello Counties or Grace Church.

So sorry to learn about Barbara's passing. Many years ago our family and Barb parents were neighbors. What fun we had taking care of Barb when she was a very small child. My condolence to the family and prayers are with all of you.
