Ottumwa, Iowa - Betty Lou (Roberts) McConaughey, 87, of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2026. She was born on March 24th, 1938, in Benton, Iowa, to Hugh and Erma Roberts. On May 16th, 1956, she married Donald McConaughey, and together they remained married until death did them part, sharing a wonderful life and being blessed with 5 children. Betty was a soft, kind-hearted soul, known for her gentle nature, warm smile, and genuine enjoyment of life. She had a deep love for children and animals and found comfort and happiness in music, especially country music. She delighted in simple pleasures, including her favorite television programs, a cup of coffee with a friend, nature walks, card games, and was well known for her insatiable sweet tooth. Above all, Betty cherished her family. She especially treasured the many years spent with her grandchildren, taking great joy in watching them grow. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her children, Bob McConaughey, Brenda McConaughey, Raymond (Chris) McConaughey, Ralph (Kristina) McConaughey, and Kimberly (Brent) Cobler; her ten grandchildren, Emily, Abby, Rylan, Jessica, Casey, Keneisha, Kaylan, Andrew, Levi, and Janielle; and four great-grandchildren, Alex, Bailey, Gunner, and Lydia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents Erma and Hugh; and her two sisters, Margaret and Patty.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa from 3-7 p.m., with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ottumwa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026 also at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa with burial and graveside services to follow at Shaul Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Care Initiatives Hospice.
