Catherine Charlene Crall Obituary

Albia, Iowa - Catherine Charlene Crall passed away on March 16, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital. She was born on April 22, 1935 on the family farm west of Albia in Monroe County, Iowa to Charley and Catherine (Carr) Anderson. Charlene attended the Pharis Country School and then Albia High School, graduating in 1952. She then went on to nurse's training at St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Ottumwa, Iowa, becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1955.

Charlene married Bernard George Crall of Georgetown, Iowa on November 23, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia with the Reverend Harry Linnenbrink officiating. Charlene and Bernard were blessed with four children: Cathy, Tim, Dave and Jean Anne. They lived many years in town in Albia, but in 1986, they moved back to the country to the farm where Charlene grew up. They were married 62 years prior to Bernard's death on March 30, 2020.

Outside of family and friends, most people in Albia knew Charlene as a nurse. She had a long and varied career as an RN. She was a pediatric nurse, a visiting nurse, a factory nurse, an office staff nurse and a school nurse. But for most of her career, she worked for Dr. H.J. Richter in Albia and for the Albia Community School District as a school nurse. After working as a school nurse for 29 years, she officially retired in 2001. Except, Charlene didn't really retire. She went on to work part-time as an office nurse in Albia and as an occupational health nurse at Cargill in Ottumwa until 2017 when she finally did retire from nursing altogether.

Charlene had many interests and talents. She was a wonderful seamstress, making beautiful garments, baby blankets, decorated pillowcases and quilts through the years. She loved being outside, especially mowing her yard on her new riding lawn mower. Charlene also had a soft spot for animals including her cats and two paint horses (Cuddles and Dolly). She was also quite proud of the fact that she was still driving to Dubuque by herself, most recently this past Christmas.

She loved socializing with her family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed her 90th birthday party at the Georgetown Hall last April, which was attended by over 100 of her closest friends and relatives. And even as a nonagenarian, Charlene was still finding new interests. She started watching college basketball in the past couple of years and loved following Caitlin Clark. She took to watching golf tournaments on television as well!

CCC was truly one of a kind!

Charlene is survived by her children, Dr. Catherine Crall (Mike Sinnott) of Dubuque, IA, Tim (DeeAnn) Crall of Worthington, MN, and Dave (Cathy Jo) Crall of Albia, IA; her grandchildren, Trevor Crall, Colin (Christie) Sinnott, Meg (Ryne) George, Taylor (Jessica) Crall, Brendan (Callie) Sinnott and granddaughter-in-law, Shelby (Josh) Fuhs; her great-grandchildren, Kellan, Declan, and Sloane Crall; Jocelyn, Molly, Liam and Cody Sinnott; Hayden, Hadley and Barrett Fuhs; Clara Jo Crall, Natalie George, Desmond Sinnott. Another great-grandchild, Baby George, will join this growing family very soon.

She is survived by her brother, Mick (Susan) Anderson, brother-in-law, Steve (Gloria) Crall, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Joanne and Mike Wasko, sister-in-law, Helen Shepard and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends who loved her like a mother.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, her daughter, Jean Anne, her grandson, Jarred Crall, her parents, Charley and Catherine Anderson, her parents-in-law, John and Mary Crall, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Joe and Olive Crall, William and Helen Marie Crall, and Kenneth Shepard.
