Mineral, VA - Cleta June Venator (Pitz), 87, of Mineral, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on July 21, 2025, surrounded by family and her caregiver, Pat.
Cleta was born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she met her husband, Ray, at Morrell's Meat Packing Plant. They moved often due to Ray's service in the Marine Corps. Together, they enjoyed many card games, especially Bridge and Trivia. Cleta continued her hobbies throughout her life, including Bridge, Mahjong, Red Hat Ladies, Mexican Train, the Redskins Gang, and Book Club.
She held various jobs over the years but finished her working career alongside her husband at his State Farm agency, where she stayed until his retirement in 2004. After retiring, they moved permanently to Lake Anna, Virginia, where they hosted many parties and celebrations with family and friends. Their home was always open.
Cleta was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lewis Venator; her sister, Carol Ann Pitz; and her parents, James Edward Pitz and Nellie Mae Pitz (Walker).
She is survived by her son, Timothy (Tim) Blaine Venator; her daughter, Lisa Ann Merchant and son-in-law Sonny Merchant; and her granddaughters, Bethany Michelle Merchant and Caroline Marie Merchant. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Venator; sister-in-law Barbara Sah (Matt); and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to her caregivers, Patricia Thomasson and Renee Hunter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Mineral United Methodist Church, located at 301 W. Third Street, Mineral, VA 23117. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, to be announced.
