Floris, IA - David Wayne Benson, 84, of Floris, IA went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Davis County Hospital. Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Grace Family Church with Pastor Dar Eckley officiating. Burial will be in the Floris Cemetery near Floris, IA immediately following. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the church and will last until the time of service. David Wayne Benson entered this life on October 4, 1941, the son of Donald and Iva Warden Benson. He attended school in Eldon, graduating with the Eldon High School Class of 1959. He went on to Telegraphy School and began working for CB & Q and the Rock Island Railroad as a brakeman and in the telegraph department. On August 31, 1961, he married the love of his life, Sharon Emry. The two became the loving parents of 2 children, Jim and Heidi. This August, Dave and Sharon would have celebrated 65 years of marriage. During that time they raised a family, built a business, shared their faith, and remained deeply in love.

After leaving the railroad Dave and Sharon purchased the hardware store in Eldon. They operated as a hardware store until the early 90's when they moved into appliance sales and service. Dave's appliance became the go-to place for top quality appliances and service in Southeast Iowa. Together they built a business on their name and made many lasting relationships along the way. Dave and Sharon always chose to treat their employees like family and to this day they still consider them as family. They served the area for over 50 years until their retirement in 2020.

Dave always loved the outdoors. Whether he was playing in the dirt on the backhoe, mushroom, hunting, or cutting wood, it was always a place of comfort. In his earlier years Dave spent many hours with Sharon on the Des Moines River boating and skiing. He mowed the fairgrounds in Eldon for many years and served on the Eldon Fire Department and Eldon City Council.

David Wayne Benson was a man of Faith. He spent many years serving God as a preacher and leading people to Christ. He was a loving husband and best friend to his wife Sharon, even if he pushed her buttons from time to time. He cared deeply for this family and has left a legacy that will carry on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him and called him friend.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Jack, Mick, and Donnie Benson and a great granddaughter, Remy.

Left to share his story is his loving wife, Sharon of Floris, IA; two children, Jim (Patti) Benson and Heidi (Kenny) Kildow; six grandchildren, Alexandria (John) Carr, Hannah (Travis) VanDerHart, Morgan (Preston) Hofer, Caleb (Michelle) Kildow, Meghan Benjamin, and Mattie Kildow; seventeen great grandchildren, Eli, Hope, Davey, Rylan, Jeb, Levi, Conrad, Hawkins, Delta, Joelle, Finley, Ellie, Isabelle, Ada Jae, Blaine, Brynley, and Blakely; a sister, Linda Booth; bonus grandson, Justin Shepard; his faithful four legged companion, Lucy, as well as many extended family and friends.
