David Glen Findlay (Dave) Obituary

Bettendorf, Iowa - David Glen Findlay was born August 24, 1940 to Robert and Marjorie (Lutz) Findlay. He left this world on April 5, 2026 in Davenport, Iowa due to congestive heart failure complications. David attended Eldon schools graduating in 1959. He was married to Marsha (Baker) for 64 years until she passed away unexpectedly in 2023. They had two children - Kimberly Findlay-Brackey (Rick Brackey) of LeClaire, Iowa and Thad Findlay of Berthoud, Colorado. Also remembering him fondly are seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six nieces/nephews. He is survived by a younger sister Elizabeth (Findlay) Long and her husband Ron with whom he and Marsha spent 15 winters enjoying Marco Island, Florida. His sister-in-law Sherrill Kleinman (Larry) and brother-in-law Donnie Baker.

Dave often said he had a wonderful life. "I had a lot of fun, great friends, a good job and a wife I loved." He and Marsha enjoyed many travels together in the U.S., Mexico and Europe. Dave was proud of his Scottish Heritage and membership in the Mayflower Society. He was a "guy's guy" and relished activities with groups of friends. For many years he shot trap at the Izaak Walton League; as a younger man he went hunting with buddies; in his 80's he joined a golf league; he also started shooting pool again several times weekly.

He was talented with machinery. He taught himself watch repair and had a significant watch collection. Aviation fascinated him. As a young man, he built and flew model airplanes. A great accomplishment in his life, he earned his pilot's license in his 50's. After working at Caterpillar for more than 20 years as a CNC machinist and foreman, the Mt Joy operation closed. Dave then opened the first paintless dent removal business in the Quad Cities and was a successful business owner.

Per Dave's wishes, there will be no formal funeral. Celebration of Life services will be held at the VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf, Iowa on June 27 beginning at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Putnam Museum in Davenport, Iowa where Dave enjoyed many hours volunteering or the Eldon Depot Museum honoring Dave's father, Bob Findlay and both grandfathers Glenn Findlay and Ruben Lutz, all of whom worked for the Rock Island Railroad.
