Ottumwa, Iowa - David Edward "Ed" LaPoint, age 63, of Ottumwa passed away on November 26, 2025 at 6:40 a.m. at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

David was born February 11, 1962 in Ottumwa Iowa to Richard D. and Christena C. Bales LaPoint. David graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1980. While in high school he worked through the VICA program at the Aldrich Standard Station. Also working at Red Lyon Inn and Iowa Glass.

He relocated to the Kansas City Area in 1985. He worked at several glass companies eventually opening his own glass company, Auto Glass Express Inc. He married Judy Carlo in September 1985 and they later divorced.

Due to ill health he moved back to Ottumwa in 2022. He was a man of faith with his old worn Bible close at hand.

David is survived by his mother Christena LaPoint of Ottumwa; brother Jim LaPoint and his wife Patti of Ottumwa, and a sister Linda LaPoint of Oskaloosa, as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard LaPoint; maternal grandparents, Stanley and Florence Bales; paternal grandparents, Paul and Juanita LaPoint, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Per his wishes his body has been cremated.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society. Sinnott Funeral Home of Ottumwa, serving all of southern Iowa is assisting the family.
