Lombard, IL - Donna Jean (Asher) Wood passed away on February 14, 2026 at the age of 89 at her place of residence at Beacon Hill in Lombard, IL. Donna (or Jean as she was referred to by her immediate family) was a loving and constant presence in the lives of her family. She will be sorely missed.

Donna was born in her maternal grandparent's house a few miles south of Albia, IA to Donald and Dortha Asher on February 29, 1936. As a Leap Year baby, she relished the uniqueness of her birth date and was delighted when every 4 years she could have "a REAL birthday", as she called it.

Donna married her high school sweetheart, Richard Wayne Wood, in 1956 who proceeded her in death in 2010 after 54 years of marriage. Together they built a life in the Western suburbs of Chicago. In retirement they enjoyed living in Williamsburg, VA and traveling the world before returning to the Chicago area to live.

Donna worked outside the home throughout her life, beginning as a teenager at a dime-store in Albia and later in the Monroe County Auditor's Office. In the Chicago area, she worked professionally in various positions until she retired from a major banking institution in downtown Chicago. She was a passionate artist and produced beautiful quilts, jewelry, wall hangings, knitted shawls and sweaters, and hand-painted watercolor cards which she joyfully shared with others.

Donna is survived by daughter, Janet Lynn Frost (Thomas) of Tucson, AZ; son Eric Richard Wood (Jennifer Jordan) of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren Andrew Frost (Katie) of Brookfield, WI; Peter Frost (Amanda) of Germantown, WI; Emerson Jordan-Wood of Minneapolis, MN; Samuel Jordan-Wood of Brooklyn, NY; great-grandchildren Shepard, Bear, and Ranger Frost of Brookfield, WI; sister Marla (Asher) Zbornik (the late Layton) and Jo Ann (Asher) Thompson (Bruce), and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Beacon Hill in Lombard, IL on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her name be given to Angels for Hospice Charities. www.angelsgracehospice.com/donate
