Dwight Jones (Butch) Obituary

Ottumwa, Iowa - Dwight "Butch" William Jones, age 79, passed away at home with his loving wife by his side on May 30, 2024. His warmth, compassion, dedication, and orneriness touched countless lives during his 79 years. He was born in Ottumwa, IA, on December 30th, 1944, Butch dedicated his life to serving his community and loved ones with boundless generosity and a heart full of love. He married the love of his life, Linda Dullard on July, 26, 1964 in Ottumwa at the First Church of God.

The essence of Butch was his loving spirit, evident in every aspect of his life. His steadfast dedication was seen in his career as a postal carrier with the US Postal Service, retiring in the year 2000 after many years of service to the Ottumwa community. He was a man of deep faith, serving on the board of the First Church of God, and as a past chairman. Butch was also a leader in his community, serving as the chairman of the River Community Credit Union, and on the Ottumwa School Board for nine years, seven of them as president.

Outside of his professional and civic duties, Butch was an avid golfer, boasting three documented holes-in-one. But his true joy was his family, to whom he was utterly devoted. He was the loving husband of Linda Jones, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage after declaring his intention to marry her at the tender age of 16. He was an amazing father and a doting grandfather, rarely missing his grandchildren's events. He carried his compassion into his community, selflessly helping the elderly, particularly those in his church, and many others in need.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Jones; children, Shawn (Marya) Jones, Frosti Chicchelly; grandchildren, MicKenna Jones, Alexia Jones, Braxton (Molly) Chicchelly, Camden (Ashley) Chicchelly, Gracyn Chicchelly; great grandchildren, Braelly and Roxie Chicchelly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Dolores Jones, brother, Ronnie Jones.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and service, setting a beautiful example for all who knew him. His family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at Sinnott Funeral Home at 201 McKinley Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa from 1-3 p.m. with his family present. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Food Bank of Iowa - Ottumwa Distribution Center or to Heartland Humane Society.
