Franklin Neff Obituary

Franklin Emory Neff, age 79, of Packwood, died, Monday, July 25, 2016 at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Frank was born at home in Packwood, October 27, 1936, the son of Ralph Emory and Alberta M. Nelson Neff. He lived all of his life in Packwood. He graduated from Packwood High School in 1955. He was baptized in the Packwood Christian Church.

He married Enola M. Dailey on July 4, 1959 at the Packwood Methodist Church.

He worked two years for the Conoco station in Packwood before employment with the Iowa Department of Transportation for 42 years, working in the Fairfield Construction office as a district concrete inspector, later years traveled state wide instructing at D.O.T. certification classes. He had also worked 40 years, part time at the Packwood Lumber Company. He had served many years on the Packwood City Council and 30 years with the Packwood Fire Department. He was a charter member of the board of directors of the Packwood Community Housing, beginning in 1979. Served as president for many years, manager, secretary of the board and assisted Enola with caretaker duties.

He was a 50-year Mason, Past Master and secretary of Abingdon 104, currently Master of NAAMAN Lodge No. 613 Brighton and treasurer of Justice Lodge 230 at Ollie. Past Commander of Richland Post 504 American Legion at Richland.

Frank served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959-1961, enlisted in the 224 Engineer BN of the Iowa National Guard in January, 1962, serving at Fairfield, Centerville, Muscatine and Camp Dodge until his retirement in October 1996. He attained the rank of 1st Sergeant, enjoyed the military

and devoted much time in service.

He enjoyed camping with family and friends, also attending grandson's activities, when possible and their grandson's summer visits.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one, son Rickie.

Surviving are his daughter T.J. and husband Jeremy Butts and grandson Dylan

Franklin Butts all of Ankeny.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Packwood Cemetery with full military honors. Officiating will be Colonel (Retired) Timon Davison and Pastor Frosty Van Voorst.

A gathering of family and friends will be at the Packwood Fire Station from 4:30 until 6:30 P.M. Monday with Masonic Rites service beginning at 6:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pekin Dollars for Scholars.

Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
