Ottumwa - OTTUMWA - Gary Wayne Bishop, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 8:14 a.m. April 27, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society - Ottumwa.

He was born March 15, 1941 in Ottumwa to Harold O. and Vivian Tanner Bishop. He married Suzanne Mary Kelleher May 25, 1963.

A graduate of Corydon High School, he attended Northeast Missouri State College. Gary completed his medical technology training in Ottumwa and worked as a Medical Technologist at Ottumwa Regional Hospital, retiring after 43 years from Collaborative Lab Services.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading and running, having ran a marathon at age 70.

Surviving is his wife, Susie; their children, Bill (Nancy) Bishop of Ottumwa, Christopher (Tashia) Bishop of Ankeny, Philip (Tina) Bishop of West Des Moines and Amy (Dave) Nicholson of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Holly, Vinnie, Haley, Ellen, Henry, Ethan, Grace, Beverly, Nolan and Emma; his brother, David "Mike" (Phyllis) Bishop of Chariton; and a brother-in-law, Chuck (Cindy) Riggenbach of Bloomfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Riggenbach.

Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30th at Reece Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a time for family to greets friends until 6 p.m.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1st at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
