Gary Cameron Obituary

Lone Tree, Iowa - On Sunday, June 21, Gary L. Cameron, 92, long-time resident of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away peacefully in Lone Tree, Iowa, with his adoring daughter Druet by his side.

Raised in Bloomfield, Iowa, where he met the love of his life, Nan, Gary was educated locally, then graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO, followed by the University of Iowa College of Law in Iowa City, IA, where he made many lifelong friends.

As a young attorney he settled with his family in Fairfield where he set up his practice, soon serving as City Attorney and County Attorney. During a hiatus from 1965-1966, when he held the office of Secretary of State, the family lived in Des Moines. Upon their return to Fairfield, Gary joined in a law partnership with Robert D. Parkin for 37 years. When Parkin retired, he joined the firm of Foss, Kuiken, Gookin & Cochran, retiring in 2011.

Gary was an avid reader of history and law, a keen golfer, scoring ten holes-in-one, and a huge Hawkeye's fan. His plus-fours and black and gold outfits will be remembered fondly.

There will be no service at his request. Special thanks go to the wonderful caring staff at the Lone Tree Health Care Center and Moments Hospice as well as the folks at Addington Place of Fairfield and the Jefferson County Health Center.
