Rock Island, Illinois - Georgia Ellen Steeber, 79, of Rock Island, passed away Friday January 23, 2026 at home, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday January 31, 2026 at Church of Peace United Church of Christ, 1114 12th St, Rock Island, IL 61201. The family will greet friends from 11:00am to service time at church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be left in her name to Church of Peace or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Georgia was born on April 8, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Ulin) James. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School class of 1964. Georgia later attended Ottumwa Heights Junior College and later the University of Northern Iowa, receiving her Bachelor's degree in 1968. She married Robert "Bob" Steeber on August 5, 1972 in Church of Peace, Rock Island.

Georgia had been a teacher with Linn Mar School District in Marion, Iowa and later with Rock Island Milan School District.

One of Georgia's greatest sources of joy and pride was her family. She also enjoyed traveling, reading and yard work. She was an active and beloved member of Church of Peace United Church of Christ and the Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; sons, Christopher Steeber and Kevin (Kelly) Steeber; granddaughter, Dylan Marie Steeber and several great friends.
