James Leroy Briggs (Jim) Obituary
Cotopaxi, CO - In loving memory, we are saddened to share that Jim passed away peacefully at home, having lived a full and adventurous life of 87 years.
Born to Ancel and Catherine (Tometich) Briggs in Centerville, Iowa, Jim was the eldest of five children. Jim was a hard worker and learned a variety of trades starting at a young age from his father and other mentors.
In October 1956, Jim married his sweetheart Gloria Minear in Bishop, CA. They returned to the Midwest and raised two children, Marjie and Clayton. The family made many happy memories together, engaging in outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, and hunting, as well as crafting at home.
In 1968, the family moved to Colorado, where Jim became general manager of Canon Concrete, later known as Valco. Over the years, Jim held a variety of management positions with concrete and construction-related businesses in Colorado. Venturing out on his own, he built a business constructing concrete plants all over the world, including the jungles of Indonesia, the Mideast, South America, and South Korea, where he taught an informal English class so he could learn some Korean. In his free time, he still loved to travel and explore the world with Gloria, like scuba diving in Australia and Belize, RVing all over the country and Mexico, and a road trip to Alaska.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Gloria, their children Marije (Joe) Stevens and Clayton (Joan) Briggs; three grandchildren, Tom (Kim) Briggs, JD (Amanda) Briggs, and Dan (Heather) Briggs; great-grandchildren Peyton, Colt, and Cooper, Serenity, Chevelle, and Arabella, Elli and Danny. He is also survived by his brother Jack and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom, and sisters Delores and Judy.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on June 21, 2025, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Deer Mountain Fire station, 6181 Co Rd 28, Cotopaxi, CO. Love ya Dad!
