James  Chebuhar
James Richard "Chub" Chebuhar, 86, of Ottumwa, died at 11:15 p.m. November 19, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born July 19, 1933 in Rathbun, IA to Tony and Mary Ellen Yakovich Chebuhar. He married Catherine Thomas on September 7, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville.
A graduate of Moravia High School, he served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.
He had worked for 30 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works retiring in 1984. For the past 36 years, he and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Queen.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gambling in Las Vegas at the casinos and was a Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving is his wife, Catherine; a son, James Robert "Jim" (Sherry) Chebuhar of Marshalltown; several nieces and nephews, many friends including the Logans and McDowells.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margaret Koon and Teresa Matkovich.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in the Ottumwa Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Monday followed by a time for the family to greet friends until 7 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to the Ottumwa A-Club or Heartland Humane Society.
