Fremont, Iowa - Janeitta Ilene Shepherd, 72, of Fremont, died Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at the MHP Hospital Emergency Room. She was born September 10, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Winnie Burns and Hazel Lucille Woods Ensley. Janeitta was raised and educated in Wichita. On October 6, 1966, she was united in marriage to Larry Shepherd in Wichita. In 1968, the couple moved to Oskaloosa. Janeitta stayed home to care for her family. In 1983, they moved to Fremont. She was proud to say that at the age of 40 she decided to get her G.E.D. She scheduled the test, did not crack a book to study, and took and passed the test on her first try. Once her children were grown, she worked in various nursing homes in Ottumwa and Oskaloosa. She held many positions in the care facilities including, nurses' aide, activity director, and social worker. She retired from Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa in the mid 2000's. Janeitta enjoyed gambling, especially trips to the casino, playing the lottery and bingo. She delighted in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was famous for her "life lessons" that she shared with her family.

Her family includes her husband of over 53 years, Larry Shepherd of Fremont; three children and their spouses, Steven and Amanda Shepherd of Fremont and Tianna and Justin Aldridge of Oskaloosa, and Tracy and Jared Sams of Peoria, Illinois; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles (Kathy) Ensley of Wichita, Kansas, Rodney (Kathy) Ensley of Pensacola, Florida, Leland (Katie) Ensley of Wichita, Kansas, and Darren (Tina) Ensley of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Wendy (Robin) Siefkin and Jamie Hicks all of Wichita, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents; and a sister Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Reverend Robb Bruns officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Cemetery south of Fremont. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday after 11 a.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
