Janice Kay Gomez Obituary

Des Moines, IA - Janice "Kay" Gomez, formerly of Ottumwa, IA, died August 30th, 2024 in Des Moines, IA with her daughter by her side.

She was born August 15, 1942 in Sewal, IA to John Harold Trimble and Bonnetta Fay Zimmerman. Kay graduated from Seymour High School in 1960, from Iowa Technical School in 1967, and Indian Hills Community College in 1989. She worked at Ottumwa Regional Health Center for 37 years, serving the Ottumwa community, retiring in 2004.

She was an accomplished seamstress. Enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and decorative painting. Before moving to Des Moines, she belonged to Red Hat, Bunco group, PEDS lunch group and spent time with a variety of additional treasured friends. In Des Moines, she enjoyed spending time at the Urbandale Senior Center, going to garage sales, shopping and weekly visits to Tasty Taco.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelley Engstrom of Des Moines, IA; grandson, Daniel Engstrom and his wife Megan Engstrom of Dyersville, IA; and niece, Linda Lopez of Moline, IL.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Trimble; mother, Bonnetta Poli; sister, Patty Arlene Carlson; step father, Albert Poli; nephew, James Sharp; niece, Sandra Atkins; and companion, Vincent Bergman.

A public viewing will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, IA from noon to 1:00, followed by a graveside service at Shriver Cemetery in Corydon, IA which Kay referred to as "God's Country".
