Jefferson  Burns
Jefferson Stewart Burns, 59, of Ottumwa died suddenly and unexpected at 12 p.m. November 7, 2019 at Mercy One West Des Moines Medical Center.
He was born January 8, 1960 in Kirksville, MO to Howard and Anna Mae Casady Burns. He married Deborah Gail Poole September 26, 1998. For the past 25 years they shared a beautiful story together, celebrating 21 years of marriage this past September. He was a wonderful man and was well known to many people.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jeff had worked for Miller Brewing Company. He was known for his ability to carry a keg upon each shoulder and loved to interact with his cliental. He later graduated from Indian Hills Community College and worked for Ajinomoto USA in Eddyville. He and his wife lived in Arizona for three years before moving back to Ottumwa in 2009.
He had a great love for sports, especially baseball and was hopeful that his Orioles would make the playoffs and on to the series. Jeff wrote, "Sometimes I believe that there are people being born every day without a sense of humor.... look at the Yankees". He loved and adored his Cairn Terrier, Midge. They were well known in their neighborhood as they went for frequent walks.
Surviving is his wife, Deb; two sons, Jason Christopher Songer of Ottumwa and Conor Casady (Jennifer) Burns of Iowa City, IA; three step-daughters, Megan (Todd) Grooms of Bloomfield, Libby (Matt) Ehmke of Des Moines and Lucy Poole (Justin Jennings) of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Jackson, Koda, Liam, Olivia, Frea; seven step-grandchildren, Macy, Elizabeth, Jack, Ben, Sam, Lennox and Mya; two sisters, Johneita and Tibitha Burns of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.C. Burns; and an infant granddaughter, Grace Ann Songer.
His body has been cremated. No services are planned at this time.
A special thank-you to Kevin Moreland for the tender goodbye he expressed to Jefferson.
