Johnni Mae Burns
Johneita Elizabeth Burns, 68, of Ottumwa, died at 8:35 p.m. February 29, 2020 at Ridgewood Specialty Care.
She was born March 13, 1951 in Ottumwa to Howard and Anna Mae Casady Burns.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1969, she earned her Nursing Degree from Indian Hills Community College and a Bachelor's of Social Work from Buena Vista University. Johnni worked for Ottumwa Regional Health Center for 27 years in the Psychiatric Unit as the Director of Patient Care and in the OB and Pediatrics Departments as Director of Patient Care and Nursing Manager, retiring in 2009.
She enjoyed her "Friday Night Committee" get-togethers.
Surviving are her daughters, Abby (Nathan) Heller of Cedar Rapids and Alicia Burns of Ottumwa; a sister, Tibi Burns of Ottumwa; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, especially her great niece, Tempe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, J.C. Burns and Jefferson Burns.
Her body has been cremated. Memorial services may be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Whatsoever You Do Inc. or Heartland Humane Society.

I will miss Johnni. We worked together at ORHC as well as being friends. I always enjoyed covering as the social worker at the St Joseph building and getting to see Johnni. She always had some great stories. Tib and her children will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am saddened to learn of Johnni's passing. Many fond memories of our time working and socializing together, though many years have elapsed since then. My condolences to Tib, Abby, and Alicia and all Johnni's family and friends.
