Kenneth Hayden Williams, age 91, of Albia passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the Monroe County Hospital, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. He was born on March 5, 1928 in Albia to Elmer and Mildred (Mercer) Williams.
Kenny graduated from Albia High School, where he participated in every sport, and held the rushing record for over fifty years. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. He owned and operated Williams Clothing Store for twenty-five years with his brother Sonny. He then worked for Indian Hills Community College, retiring in 1989. He then worked part time for Sinnott Funeral Home.
Kenny was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. He was also a member of the Albia Fire Department for twenty-one years, where he served two years as chief, member of the Astor Lodge #505 for fifty years, and also the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in Des Moines. He was an avid Hull Pottery Association member, golfer and St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Kenny is survived by his wife Shirley Williams of Albia, children, Kathy (Jan) Borgesen of Sandy, UT, Janet (Terry) Brown of Fort Dodge, IA, Kathy (Richard) Welsh of Albia, Marty Chamberlain of Chesapeake, VA, Calvin (Pam) Chamberlain of Lovilia; He is also survived by a brother, Lowell (Sonny) Williams of Albia, daughter-in-law, Becky Williams of Overland Park, KS, son-in-law, Dave Amos of Albia; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mildred Williams; son, John Williams, sister, Marjorie Williams, daughter Marina Amos, great grandson, Joey Atkinson, daughter-in-law, Deloris Chamberlain, and sister-in-law, Shirley Williams.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia with Rev. Roger Henry officiating. A funeral luncheon will follow services at the church, followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia with military rites conducted by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 12, 2019 with family present from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
