Lawrence Joe Thompson
Lawrence (Larry) Joe Thompson, of Blakesburg, IA passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in Colorado Springs, CO after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Larry was born in Ottumwa, IA on July 14, 1935 to Joseph L. and Glee E. (Noland) Thompson. He graduated from Blakesburg High School in 1953. On November 4, 1956, Larry married the love of his life Janet (Slagle). Together they raised four children, Sharon (Mike) Catlin, Larry Lee, Stephen Glen (Beth), and Shelly (Richard) Horn. Additionally, Larry's progeny includes 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In 1971, Larry moved his family to Colorado, where for the next 27 years he worked as a mechanic, first for International Harvester, then for the City of Colorado Springs. Rising rapidly through the ranks, he finished his career in 1998 as the Colorado Springs Vehicle Fleet Engineer. In 2004, Larry and Janet moved back to Blakesburg, IA. Larry was an avid hunter and champion silhouette marksman. Moreover, he enjoyed tinkering on all types of automobiles (except Fords) and visiting casinos.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, sister Beverly, brother Gary, and son Larry Lee. The family will hold a memorial service at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, 26 November 2019 at the Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, IA. Family visitation will commence an hour earlier. Following the service, Larry will be interred at the Blakesburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Larry's honor may be directed to the Blakesburg Christian Church or the Blakesburg United Methodist Church.
