Albia, Iowa - Lowell (Sonny) Howard Williams, age 88, of Albia passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Monroe Care Center. He was born May 23, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Lowell and Miriam (Williams) John. Sonny joined the Elmer and Mildred Williams family in 1939 in Albia.

Sonny graduated from Albia High School in 1953. He worked for the Rail Road from 1953-1957. Sonny married Shirley Quinn of Lovilia and began building a family in 1956. Sonny served in U.S. Army 1957 thru 1959 stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned back to the family business " Williams Clothing Store". Sonny and his brother were both co-owners of the store until Sonny became the sole owner in 1974. The store was closed in 1994 due to the trend of shopping malls in the bigger cities. When one door closes another door opens and he started working at the Monroe Care Center until he retired.

Sonny was a busy man and enjoyed life ... Independent business owner, Community leader for Albia, Monroe County for many years and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Although Sonny was busy with community affairs, he always found time to golf, hunt and fish. He was an ardent Iowa Hawkeye fan and everyone knew not to call him when the game is on TV.

Sonny is survived by his children, Regina Williams, Des Plaines, Illinois Mike (Dumsile) Williams, Erie Colorado, Jason (Trinity) Williams Oskaloosa, Iowa; grandchildren, Zoli, Lee and Swazi Williams of Denver, Co. Coletin, Wyatt, Emillee and Valerie; great grandchildren, Landen Williams, Valerie and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his sister Collen Evans, Des Moines, Iowa.

Sonny was preceded in death by Elmer and Mildred Williams, wife Shirley Quinn Williams, brother Kenny Williams and daughter Debbie Williams

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia with Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S. officiating. Interment with military rites conducted by the American Legion of Albia, Melrose and Lovilia will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., with Sonny's family present from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home by the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society. Memorials may be directed to the Albia boys Little League/Albia girls softball league or the Albia Historical Museum.
