Lynn Dean Brumley, 82, passed from this world peacefully on January 14, 2025, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. Beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, step brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Lynn left his mark on those who knew him well. Born in Ottumwa, Iowa December 19, 1942 to Vernon and Lillian (Jacobs) Brumley, he attended Irving Grade School, Evans Junior High, and Ottumwa High School ('61). He later graduated ('69) from Central College (Pella, IA) with a degree in Psychology. A lover of music, he played clarinet and piano from an early age, culminating in playing clarinet for the US Army band—mostly in Berlin, Germany—during his two years of service to our country. He also enjoyed listening to music, and was an avid fan of The Leon Kelner Orchestra, which did a live broadcast on WHO radio (Des Moines) live from the Blue Room in New Orleans at The Roosevelt Hotel and he hardly missed it (including during his freshman year spent at Tulane University). He earned his living in sales and marketing, providing goods to various retail stores throughout Iowa. Lynn was known for his love of driving (which was handy for his profession), amassing over 500,000 miles on a Pontiac Sun Bird, which the family joked about being held together with baling wire and duct tape. He also loved very long, very hot showers. Though a private person, Lynn enjoyed decades-long friendships and conversations with wonderful neighbors and friends, Gerald & Cathy, Jerry & Sandy, and Paul & Leann. He was meticulous in many things, among which was his appearance and his beautiful, calligraphy-like handwriting. In retirement he drove cars for Des Moines Auto Auction, providing both a job and a group of friends he loved and spoke of often. Preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Lyle, he is survived by Lyle's wife Barbara (Dallas, TX), his younger brother Leland (wife Joanie) of Bainbridge Island, Washington, a stepbrother Gary McCaughey (Cedar Rapids, IA), several nieces/nephews and grandnieces/nephews, as well as his former wife Jane Brumley (Tulsa, OK). The family will host an online celebration of Lynn's life at a date yet to be determined (to receive memorial service information, please email ServiceforLynnBrumley@gmail.com). He will he missed. Rest in peace, dear Lynn.
