Maryanna Lanigan Obituary

Ottumwa, IA - Maryanna Lanigan, 74, of Ottumwa, died May 16, 2025 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born July 20, 1950 in Ottumwa to Donald R. and Anna Catherine Warburton Hansen. She married Gary L. Lanigan on June 30, 1973. Her life took many turns but none so important as her marriage to Gary Lanigan, the love of her life.

Maryanna led a very rich and fulfilling life sharing her loves and hobbies with all who were willing. Graduating from OHS in 1968 she went right to work at Everco and Universal Rundle. Later, she began working at Edd the Florist where she enjoyed working with flowers and the people who sought them. Her people skills and work ethic were key to her success and ability to do about anything. Maryann's work experience included working for a doctor and a local pharmacy among other things. She could do anything.

Maryann and Gary thrived in Ottumwa, each working at their professions and enjoying their companionship. The only thing missing was the sound of little feet on their floors. This changed in 1978 when their first daughter, Jessica, entered their life! Absolute joy is the only way to describe their lives from this point forward. It wasn't long before they gained another little girl to round out the family. Maryann was a dedicated and loving mother who cared for her girls like a lioness. Nothing was too good for her girls.

As her life progressed, Maryann adopted many cats and dogs as well. They too were her babies! Later as "empty nesters", their pets seemed to be an appropriate solution.

Those who knew her will tell you that her hobbies were more than a passion. They were an obsession! Collecting antiques from furniture to quilts, Maryann became somewhat of an expert in many areas. People came to her for information. She knew her antiques! As a member of various organizations, such as Questers, she also shared her love of all things old and interesting. Her passing will leave a void in the antique community as well in the hearts of those who loved her.

Maryanna leaves behind her husband, Gary Lynn, two daughters, Jessica (Kent) Van Maanen and Lora (Larry) Roberts, one brother, Don Hansen (Jayne), a grandson, Christian Doty, and a great grandchild Oliver Roberts who she adored and loved dearly.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Don and Anna Hansen, one sister and brother-in-law: Donna and Gaylen Chesnut, one brother, Robert and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her body has been cremated.
