Sigourney, Iowa - SIGOURNEY-Michael Spegal, age 74, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Michael was born March 15, 1947, in Champaign, Illinois, to Ernest Paul and Bernice (Hartley) Spegal and graduated from Monroe High School in 1965. On November 6, 1971, he married Mildred Hammes at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Michael worked for Iowa Bridge and Culvert out of Washington for 30 years and was a member of Carpenter's Local 308 in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife: Mildred of Sigourney; four children: Myra Spegal of Sigourney, Michelle Owens of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Joey Spegal of Sigourney and Matthew (Stephanie) Spegal of Moulton and three grandchildren: Christopher, Zoey and Alaina. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Joyce Beard and Sandy Fredericksen and one brother: Paul, Jr. in infancy.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Pastor Cathy Nutting officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page. Burial with military honors will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
