Mildred Kleinschmidt Abel Obituary
Mildred Kleinschmidt Abel, age 93, passed away peacefully February 13, 2021, at her home. She was thankful to spend her last years at home with the help of loving caregivers, Gina, Eileen, Jessie and daughter Kim.
Millie was born April 12, 1927, on the family farm near Martinsburg, to Ed and Hazel (Campbell) Warren. She graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1944 and attended the University of Iowa for two years. In 1950 she met and fell in love with Jack Kleinschmidt. They married on June 24, 1951 and made a home in Sigourney among friends who were like family. Their daughter, Kim, was born in 1957. They were married for 24 years until Jack's death in 1975. Agriculture was a constant in Millie's life. She loved helping her father farm, especially working with the mule teams. For 33 years she assisted farmers as office manager at the ASCS. From 1980 until 2002 Millie and her second husband, Rex Abel, lived and worked on their Hedrick farm. Following Rex's death, she returned to Sigourney. Millie enjoyed visiting with friends, traveling, playing dominoes, driving her truck and four wheeler - fast. Friends and family are reminded of her daily by the lovely, practical gifts she made for them. Millie especially cherished time with her daughter, Kim, sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and John Simmons, nieces, nephews and their families.
Survivors include her daughter: Kim of Des Moines; brother-in-law: John Simmons of Brillion, WI; many nieces, nephews, their spouses and families and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother: Richard Warren and sisters: Virginia Simmons and Alice Warren.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, at Pennington Cemetery near Sigourney. Powell Funeral Home will livestream the service on its facebook page. Friends are encouraged to stay safe from the cold and pandemic and attend a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Sigourney United Methodist Church, Sigourney Fire and Rescue, Lewis Memorial Fountain, 4th of July Fireworks Fund or the Keokuk County Historical Society. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
