Ottumwa, Iowa - Guy Peter "Pete" Rich, 92, of Ottumwa died at 12:17 p.m. April 24, 2026 at River Valley Place in Ottumwa.

He was born October 23, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN to Guy Masterson and Evelyn W. Karston Rich. He married Shiela Malloy in 1953. Out of this union they had a son, Michael Rich. They later divorced. He married Mary Knox July 9, 1966 in Lancaster, MO.

A 1951 graduate of Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Pete served 4 years in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Bremerton C.A. 130 during the Korean Conflict. He worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 3 years. Al-Jon for 14 years and was Director of Operations Ottumwa Housing Authority for 30 years, retiring in 2013.

He served 3 years on the Mayor's Advisory Committee, Planning and Zoning 14 years and Ottumwa City Council for 2 2-year terms. Pete was a former member of Isaac Walton League, honorary member of Rotary Club and served 9 years on the Water Works Board of Trustees.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary; a son, Michael (Lulu) Rich of HI; a granddaughter, Emma Rich; a grandson, Keoni (Shelia) Rich; 3 great grandchildren; a step-daughter, Susan (John) North of Ottumwa; step-son, Dan (Shelly) Knox of Indianola; 2 step-grandsons, Casey (Krissy) McCoy of Ottumwa, Kris (Jeni) North and family; 3 step granddaughters, Becky (Benny) Aquino, Stacy (David) Roberts, Jessi (John) Strawn; 5 step great granddaughters; a step great grandson; a nephew, Guy (Cyndi) Cook and their daughter, Meredith (Ryan) Dowd, and a 1 month old; a niece, Shannon (Jamie) Peterson and their son, Austin (Heather) Hodges and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Burton.

Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Private graveside services will be held in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
