Glen Carbon, Illinois - Phyllis E. Thompson, age 90, of Glen Carbon, IL passed away on November 27, 2025. She was a former resident of Highland, Illinois; Alamo Palms Park, McAllen, Texas; and Ottumwa, Iowa. She was born on January 14, 1935, in Keokuk County, Iowa to Orville and Cleo (Schmidt) Sutton. She graduated from Farson High School in 1953. She married Jim Thompson on April 6, 1959. They divorced and remarried one other on April 6, 1985.
Throughout her life, she attended the University of Iowa, was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, was a medical secretary, homemaker, and a teacher aid for English as a Second Language students.
While retired at Alamo Palms Park, she was active in planning, working and participating in shuffleboard tournaments. She and her husband Jim enjoyed volunteering at the Iowa State Fair campground for fifteen years. She was also an active member of the Winnie Corns Winnebago Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Missy (Brian) Gorniak of Glen Carbon, Illinois; four granddaughters Jaclyn (Mike) OConnor, Meghan, Lexi & Shelby; two great grandchildren, Lucas and Alise OConnor; brother Waldo (Beverly) Sutton of McAllen, Texas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her spouse Jim Thompson; son David Thompson; parents Orville and Cleo Sutton; sister Lela Vogel; sister Dorothy Gilbert.
Per her wishes, cremation will be performed with a private family burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Iowa at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Missy Gorniak, for the placement of a bench and tree in a local walking trail area and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.
