Richard Rick Kleinschmidt, age 62, of rural Hedrick, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at his home.

Rick was born July 13, 1953, in Ottumwa, the son of Dwight and Helen (Pence) Kleinschmidt. He attended school in Martinsburg and Ollie before graduating from Pekin High School. Rick married Becky Brainard. They were blessed with two sons and later divorced. A lifelong Keokuk County resident, Rick farmed, ran a sawmill and did carpentry and handyman work. He enjoyed farming, hunting, trapping and gardening.

Survivors include two sons: Jody Kleinschmidt of Delta and David (Rhonda) Kleinschmidt of Sigourney; three grandchildren: Sarah, Samantha and Justin; his mother: Helen Kleinschmidt of Sigourney; two sisters: Connie (Mike) Winn of Ollie and Barb Kleinschmidt of Hedrick; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Dwight and brother: Bob.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Rev. Jim Stout officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at the funeral home.
