Albia, Iowa - Roma "Janette" Flahive, age 90, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at The Homestead in Albia, surrounded by her loved ones, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. Janette was born on April 26, 1936, in Lovilia, IA, to Stanley Alfred and Loretta Pearl (Chance) Tucker. She grew up attending school in Lovilia, graduating with the Class of 1954. On March 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to William Flahive, and to this union, 3 children were born, Cindy, Bill, and Donna. Janette and Bill were blessed with 57 years of marriage prior to Bill's passing on November 5, 2014. Janette worked at Chamberlains Manufacturing in Albia before going to work at Chicago Rivet. She later spent several years in the dietary department at the Monroe County Hospital until her retirement. After retiring, Janette went back to work at the Albia Newspaper for 14 years. Janette was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia where she was active in Altar and Rosary Society. She was a phenomenal baker, best known for her delicious cookies. She enjoyed baking and sharing cookies with family and friends, and was best known as the cookie lady for First Iowa State Bank and for the Victorian Stroll each year. Janette loved to visit with others and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed going for country rides with her husband, Bill, where they often treated themselves to popcorn and candy that they referred to as "lucky bites." Above all, Janette's family was everything to her. She was a constant source of love and support to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events and other activities. Janette is survived by her children, Cindy (Steve) Angran, Bill (Lisa) Flahive, and Donna Flahive; 4 grandchildren, Amy (Garritt) Venema, Kyle (Katherine) Angran, Aaron (Sarah) Flahive, and Ian (Frida Ramirez) Flahive; and 6 great grandchildren, Kennedi, Millee, Kamry, Kinsley, Grayson, and Gianna. Janette is also survived my several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Stanley and Loretta Tucker; and siblings, Rowena (Don) Shelford, Donnie Tucker, and Beverly (Carl) Sampson. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Janette's family present to greet family and friends. A Rosary will be held at 2:00 p.m. led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society and A Christian Wake Service will be held immediately following the Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Isaac Essel and Father Michael Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia. Memorials have been established to St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia and EveryStep Hospice.
