Blakesburg, Iowa - Vera Ann Leffler, 94, of Blakesburg, IA, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2025. She was born on September 13, 1930, to Verlin and Mary McAlister. In 1948, Vera married the love of her life, Herman "JR" Leffler. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and devotion to family and farm. A proud homemaker, Vera poured her heart into her home and the land she cherished. She and JR farmed side by side, and her love for their farm was matched only by her love for her family. Vera was known for her expansive flower and vegetable gardens, which brought beauty and bounty to those around her. She had a special fondness for birds, often spending quiet moments watching them among the blooms she nurtured so faithfully. A talented cook and generous host, Vera's kitchen was always a place of comfort and care. She also had a creative spirit, often contributing to the community with her involvement in the beloved Leffler floats for the Corn Carnival.

She was a proud member of the Lads and Lassies Square Dance Club in Albia and the Blakesburg Garden Club, where she found joy in friendship, dancing, and the shared love of nature. Above all, Vera was a woman of deep love—for her husband, her family, and the land they worked. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, rooted tradition, and simple joys. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include Sisters Wanda Robinson of Moravia and Sarah Kirby of Blakesburg, four sons and one daughter, Mike (Bev) of Blakesburg, Steve (Kathy) of Unionville, Phyllis (Philip) Eaves of Cascade, Tom (Mary) of Clinton, Missouri, Daryl of Blakesburg, and Daughter-in-law Marsha of Albia; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Herman "Jr"; sons Pete, Randy, William; brothers JB and Robert McAlister; a sister, Marilyn Van Cleve; an infant grandson and two infant great-granddaughters. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Vera's family present to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Ray Lyon officiating. Burial will follow services at the McAlister Cemetery.
